I’m Steven, and a werewolf savagely murdered my parents in front of me when I was eight. Guilt lies heavy on me, because I did nothing but scream. To this day; I do not know why my little sister Emily and I weren’t hurt.  

Since werewolves aren’t real, no one believed my story when they found us. Can’t blame them. Now that I’ve grown up, it even sounds crazy to me. They never found the wild dog pack that was blamed for the attack.

I joined the capital guard right out of high school, likely to make up for my failure to save my parents. The officer who saved us now leads the guardians in the capital region. 

He shared he has found evidence that werewolves and other supernatural creatures are more than myth and live among us. I’m on a special team tasked with protecting humans from the others among us. Relieved that I’m not crazy, I can make up for my weakness as a child.

News of contact between supernaturals and humans increases, the situation grows more dire. Stories move from the tabloids to the front page. The action draws me deeper into the coming conflict. Some things should remain hidden.

What if everything I believe is based on lies? Do all with supernatural gifts pose a threat? 

What if it’s not those I hunt, but me who have become the monster?
